CONTRIBUTING COMICS

Humor for Heroes comedians are primarily former and active military members, as well as a few non-military super patriots. All Humor for Heroes comedians are talented individuals with prior comedy show experience.

Damon Edwards

    Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Cleto Rodriguez is living his lifelong dream of becoming one of the elite stand-up comedians in the country. 

    Cleto connects with audiences by relating everyday life experiences. Anything and everything is fair game, from marriage mishaps to the challenges of dieting. His comedy is high-energy, observational, and hilarious... with a brilliant Latino twist. 

    He has strong San Antonio roots going back to his grandfather, San Antonio native Cleto Rodriguez I, who was Texas’s first Hispanic Congressional Medal of Honor winner. Cleto also contributes his time and talents to the community by helping raise money for disadvantaged youth, military charities and the homeless.

Damon Edwards was born in Brooklyn then moved to VA when he was only 6 years old. Damon joined the Army and received Special Forces training and picked up a Green Beret. After 10 great years in the Army, he got out and worked in the telecom industry building Head-ends and Hubs all over the USA. While traveling Damon began to hit the local comedy clubs wherever he happened to be. Eight years have gone by and Damon is still doing stand-up.

Damon is based out of San Antonio and his comedy has derived influences from geography all over the US, Mexico and Africa. Damon’s material relates to real life experiences and appeals to everyone.

Edward Hernandez

    Edward Hernandez burst onto the comedy scene 2010 when he entered and place in the 1st ever Cleto Rodriguez Comedy contest at the LOL Comedy Club! Since then he has been touring the country with comedy greats such as Juan Villareal and Carlos Mencia. Edward is also a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was stationed aboard the USS David R. Ray DD971. Edward tells it like it is! You have to hear him to believe it!

Juan Villareal

    For over 25 years Juan Villareal has been entertaining audiences from coast to coast with his own flavor of stand up comedy. With stories of family, growing up, getting old and other life experiences, Juan guarantees that every performance leaves the crowd wanting more.

    Juan has shared the stage with such comedy greats as Paul Rodriguez, Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey and Jamie Foxx and he’s toured extensively with Carlos Mencia. With many TV appearances under his belt, including those on HBO and SHOWTIME, Juan has the honor of having appeared on BET’s Comic View 11 times, more than any other comic.

Bobby Henline

Bobby Henline is an American hero who spreads joy and hope through his love of stand-up comedy. He performs regularly at the Laugh Out Loud and River Center Comedy Clubs in San Antonio and has also performed at Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale, CA, The Comedy Zone in Fayetteville, NC, The Laugh Factory in Hollywood and in Las Vegas at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club. Bobby has been featured nationally on the Today Show, The Huffington Post, Extreme Home Makeover and the Discovery Channel. Bobby is a motivational speaker as well as a comedian and leaves a lasting impact on everyone that sees him perform.

Jay LaFarr

    Jay LaFarr, A native of New York, began his comedy journey in San Antonio Texas. A former bouncer, farm hand, fast food manager, defensive driving instructor, Catholic school survivor and a member of a functional dysfunctional family, Jay LaFarr has been tearing up rooms in clubs and colleges throughout the southwest for several years. His personal experiences are turned into a hilarious show which is in your face and at times a thought-provoking look at an average guy we all know but would hate to live next door to. He has been voted as one of the Top Six comedians in San Antonio. He is a 2 time finalist in the Funniest in South Texas competition and is still bitter about not winning. 

Angela Peña

    Gathering material from a wealth of life experiences, Jose takes audiences on the rollercoaster ride that’s been his life. Born in Cuba,  he came to the U.S. at a young age. Growing up with a hard working, and always quirky, Cuban family brought loads of funny moments every day. After high school, he was accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. He became an officer in the Air Force, is an accomplished aviator, and is a veteran having served in Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He’s been all over the world and has even been shot at in two countries!

    His comedy career started out in New York and Philadelphia. He performs all over the country now and is rapidly becoming an audience favorite for his ability to make deportation, and life threatening moments hysterical.

    Jose’s been featured in the Air Force Times and has won several comedy competitions, including;  the 2011 Rocky Mountain Laugh Off in Salt Lake City, UT.
